Exact-Fit Sleeves: Single vs Double Sleeving
Choose the right sleeve setup for storage, play and added surface protection.
Exact-fit card sleeves sit close to a standard-size trading card and create a clean first layer of protection. They are commonly used alone for careful storage or as an inner sleeve inside a larger outer sleeve. The best setup depends on how often the card is handled and where it will be stored.
What does “exact fit” mean?
An exact-fit sleeve is designed around standard card dimensions. Deckvora Exact Fit Sleeves fit standard-size cards up to 63 × 88 mm. A correct fit should feel close without bending the card, catching corners or requiring force.
Single sleeve
Useful for everyday organization, low-friction handling and cards placed in compatible binder pockets or rigid holders.
Double sleeve

Sleeve + toploader
Combines soft surface protection with rigid support for standard-thickness cards.
When single sleeving is enough
A single exact-fit sleeve can work for cards that remain in a clean binder or storage box and are handled carefully. It keeps fingerprints and direct friction away from the card. The outer storage still matters: a soft sleeve alone does not prevent bending.
When double sleeving makes sense
Double sleeving is popular for frequently handled decks and cards needing an additional barrier. Insert the card into the inner sleeve, then place that assembly into a compatible outer sleeve with the openings facing opposite directions. Press trapped air out gently—never crease or aggressively flatten the card.
Common sleeving mistakes
- Using a sleeve that is too small or already split.
- Touching the card surface repeatedly during insertion.
- Leaving dust inside the sleeve.
- Forcing sleeved cards into tight pockets.
- Assuming all cards share standard thickness or dimensions.
A simple insertion method
Place the sleeve on a clean surface, guide the card by its edges and insert it evenly. If one corner catches, back the card out slightly and realign it. After sleeving, inspect both surfaces under soft light before adding outer protection.
